Pompom Heaven

One of the things I love most about what I do, is that I get the opportunity to work with other artisans. I get to learn from them and we get to exchange ideas. Recently I was able to visit Madroqueo and his wife Johanna at their home near Antigua, Guatemala. Madroqueo runs a stall in the local artisanal market. He works with jade, quarts, onyx and other semi-precious stones. He makes exquisite pieces out of these materials. He also taught his wife Johanna how to make the tassels and pompoms that they supply me with.

I was fortunate enough to get to work with them in their shop which is actually the courtyard of their home. During this visit I learned about the unique way that they make their pompoms. I also got to meet their three beautiful daughters; Fatima, Libne & Yamelin. All three of them are award winners at the local school they attend!

When we finished, Madroqueo personally delivered me to the restaurant where I had to meet my family for lunch. I feel so much gratitude for the exceptional effort that the artisans I work with put into our collaborations. I am also grateful that the work we do together helps them sustain their families and contribute to their local communities.
